Jack Nicholson nominated for New Jersey Hall of Fame 2009
Jack Nicholson is among 30 nominees to the New Jersey Hall of Fame announced Tuesday.
Members of the public will help select the inductees for the Hall's third class by voting online through Nov. 20. The winners will be announced in early December, with induction ceremonies scheduled for May 2010.
The nominees include those from the arts and entertainment, sports, history and enterprise fields. Only people who lived in the Garden State for at least five years and have a significant association with the state are eligible, though current residency is not required, said hall spokesman Don Smith.
Besides Nicholson, this year's nominees include baseball pioneer Larry Doby, former U.S. presidents Woodrow Wilson and Grover Cleveland, guitar legend and musical innovator Les Paul, who died last month, writers Philip Roth and Judy Blume, entertainers Count Basie and Frankie Valli and track star Carl Lewis.

Count Basie. The "Kid from Red Bank" was a leading swing-era figure and beloved jazz musician.
Jack Nicholson. Three-time Academy Award-winning actor with 12 nominations and seven Golden Globe awards and a Kennedy Center Honor, was raised in Monmouth County.
Danny DeVito. Raised in Asbury Park, he became a noted actor, director and producer who founded two successful production companies.
Susan Sarandon. Academy Award-winning actress also known for her political activism, she graduated from Edison High School.
Frankie Valli. Newark native was the frontman for The Four Seasons music group; He had 29 Top 40 hits with them and nine Top 40 hits as a solo artist.
Stevie Wonder. Superstar Motown artist has won 22 Grammy Awards and sold more than 100 million albums; the one-time Alpine resident is well known for his humanitarian work and supporting children's causes
