Jack Nicholson poses for a fun selfie from courtside seat as he watches his beloved LA Lakers slide to defeat

These days, with his screen presence gradually diminishing and reports of semi-retirement echoing through Hollywood, Jack Nicholson’s courtside seat at the Staples Centre is rarely cold.

Settling down to watch his beloved LA Lakers take on Indiana Pacers, Tuesday proved to be no exception for the legendary actor – and he was in high spirits despite watching his team slide to a 104-92 loss.

Jack, 76, had good company in the form of fellow actor Bruce Dern – his former co-star in 1972 film The King Of Marvin Gardens – and the pair laughed and joked throughout the closely fought Pacific Division contest.

At one point the star delighted another courtside spectator by adopting a pout for a fun selfie while Bruce looked on from the seat to his right.

As always a host of stars attended the cavernous LA venue for the game, amongst them record producer and filmmaker Lou Adler, who occupied a seat next to Bruce. Former professional wrestler ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin was also in attendance, and the powerhouse was spotted as he rose to his feet and cheered on the home team.

Jack, whose last movie role came in 2010 rom-com How Do You Know, was rumoured to have unofficially retired from the acting business last year after suffering from ‘memory loss.’
A source told RadarOnline: ‘Quite frankly, at 76, Jack has memory issues and can no longer remember the lines being asked of him. His memory isn’t what it used to be.'

Jack was said to have turned down the role of an aging alcoholic father in 2013 hit Nebraska, with the lead eventually going to Bruce – whose performance has earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor in a Leading Role.

But while Jack appears to be keeping a low profile, the Hollywood insider claims he isn’t leaving his beloved profession behind entirely. 'Jack has no intention of retiring from the limelight,' says the source. 'He’s not retiring from public life, at all. He just doesn’t want a tribute. He’s happy to tacitly join the retirees club like Sean Connery.'
