"Ladies and gentlemen, Adam Sandler," Nicholson announced. The two previously co-starred in the 2003 comedy Anger Management. Sandler led the audience in a cheer for Nicholson, telling him, "Love you, brother," before launching into a musical tribute to SNL's history. At 87, Nicholson is a three-time Oscar winner whose illustrious career spanned more than five decades and nearly every genre. Though he never officially retired, he hasn't acted since 2010's How Do You Know and has made only occasional public appearances in recent years — most notably attending a 2023 Lakers game in Los Angeles,where he was once a courtside regular. His daughter, Lorraine Nicholson, shared the heartwarming image as part of a series of holiday photos. The 87-year-old three-time Oscar winner can be seen in the snapshot standing with Lorraine in what looks like a cozy library or office, with several awards displayed on the bookshelf behind him. Lorraine captioned the post, "The giving season." This marks the first public image of Nicholson in nearly two years. Known for his iconic performances in films like The Shining and One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Nicholson stepped away from acting after his role in the 2010 romantic comedy How Do You Know, which starred Reese Witherspoon, Paul Rudd, and Owen Wilson. Although How Do You Know wasn't a major success, Nicholson’s legacy remains strong, with his previous role in The Departed (2006) earning him a Golden Globe nomination. In recent years, Nicholson has been seen less frequently, making occasional appearances at L.A. Lakers games, where he was once a regular courtside fixture. His last public outing was reportedly during a Lakers playoff game in 2023, where he attended with his son, Jim Nicholson. Nicholson resides in a 3,303-square-foot property on Mulholland Drive in Beverly Hills, which he purchased from his former neighbor and close friend, Marlon Brando, in 2005. Rumors have circulated suggesting Nicholson has become somewhat of a recluse, mirroring Brando in his later years. However, this new photo suggests Nicholson remains closely connected to his family. Starting Tuesday, the Lakers meet the winner of the game between Sacramento and Golden State. The return of superfan (and actor) Jack Nicholson to the LA Lakers' hall of fame was big news in Los Angeles. For the first time since October 2021, he was back in the Hall with his son. Since the corona pandemic, the 86-year-old actor has not shown much of himself. But he did not want to miss the chance to see his beloved team win another series in the playoffs for the first time since 2013 (not counting the special playoffs in the "Florida bubble" during the corona pandemic). Given his first camera by his wife Elizabeth in 1964, Watson went on to shoot more than 100 Vogue covers, sold that Moss nude for $25,000 and has "been thinking photographs every day for over 40 years’" he says. To mark the release of his new book, he talks us through his most memorable pictures. "I’d just arrived at Jack’s place in Aspen when it started snowing. I took a couple of shots of him indoors then we agreed to do one in the snow. Thank God! The 79-year-old actor will return to the screen for the first time since 2010 to star in an English-language remake of Toni Erdmann, Variety reported. For those who have not yet seen the original German film—which is nominated for a best foreign language Oscar this month—know that the project seems like a perfect fit for Nicholson. Written and directed by Maren Ade, the movie centers on “a practical joking father (played originally by Peter Simonischek) who tries to reconnect with his hard working daughter (Sandra Hüller) by creating an outrageous alter ego and posing as her CEO’s life coach.” The film received rave reviews after its Cannes Film Festival premiere last year, including one from the exacting A.O. Scott of the New York Times, who offered this description of the character Nicholson will take on. It was Nicholson’s idea to take on the role, according to Variety, which reports that the actor “was a huge fan of the original and approached Paramount’s Brad Grey with the idea.” The studio has not yet chosen a director, writer, or actress to co-star with Nicholson. The adaptation does already have a team of producers, though, including The Big Short director Adam McKay, Will Ferrell, and Maren Ade. Toni Erdmann will be the first film for Nicholson since 2010’s James L. Brooks dramedy How Do You Know. In the years since that role, Nicholson was rumored to have retired from acting. But in a 2013 interview, Nicholson clarified that he hasn’t quit acting—he’s just quit hitting on women. But that doesn’t mean he isn’t retired, according to Peter Fonda, with whom Nicholson has been close since the two made “Easy Rider.” “I think he is ­basically retired,” Fonda told Page Six at this month’s BAFTA Awards Season Tea Party, held annually in Los Angeles. “I don’t want to speak for him, but he has done a lot of work and he has done very well as a person financially.” Four years ago, rumors circulated that the actor was slowing down due to memory loss, but those claims were swiftly denied by his representatives. “Sometimes ­people have a reason that you don’t know, and it’s not for me to ask,” said Fonda. “I don’t call him up and say, ‘Johnny,’ I call him Johnny Hop, ‘What are you doing?’ I would say, ‘How are you, how do you feel?’” The last three films on Nicholson’s IMDB page are James L. Brooks’ forgettable “How Do You Know,” the doubly infamous Casey Affleck/Joaquin Phoenix vanity project “I’m Still Here” (recently in the news when allegations of sexual harassment against Affleck resurfaced), and Rob Reiner’s “The Bucket List,” with Morgan Freeman. While there, he kept a low profile. “He didn’t want to draw much attention,” artist Katrien Van der Schueren, an eyewitness, tells ‘Closer.’ “He wanted to be left alone.” But don’t mistake Jack for Greta Garbo: He ultimately doesn’t want to be alone. “I would love that one last romance,” he says. “But I’m not very realistic about it happening. What I can’t deny is my yearning.” Or his fear. Says a source closer to Jack, “He’s afraid of dying alone in that house,” a Mulholland Drive mansion that his children have been hoping he’ll sell. “They’ve been encouraging him to downsize and move into a more manageable place in Beverly Hills,” adds the source. “But he loves his old place in the Hollywood Hills.” Jack knows he may be fighting a losing battle with his solitary fate. “I’m definitely still wild at heart, but I’ve struck biogravity,” he says. “I can’t hit on women in public anymore. I didn’t decide this; it just doesn’t feel right at my age.” It’s the end of an epic era of womanizing for the famously hard-partying lothario. “If you dated Jack, you knew it would be an exciting experience filled with passion and fun,” says a friend. “But you also knew it would be short-lived.” Well, not always, Jack was married once, to Sandra Knight. “We had a very beautiful, sweet marriage,” Sandra exclusively tells ‘Closer’ of their 1962 to ’68 bond. Besides the physical similarities, both Nicholsons share a passion for the movie scene. At the age of 22, Jack made his big screen debut in the 1959 movie, The Cry Baby Killer.
